1930's Glass Starburst Plates (Set of 8)
1930's Glass Starburst Plates (Set of 8)
Everything about these Federal Glass beauties is stunning- the scalloped edges, the radiating design, the perfect balance of form. Oh my. They are large enough to easily be used for lunch or salads and add just the right about of earthy interest to make a meal feel special.
During the years of the Great Depression (1929-1939), the glass factories that had been making extremely fine crystal glassware kept their doors open by pivoting to make "Depression Glass", pieces that were mass produced by pressing glass in a machine. These pieces were made of lower quality glass than the fine wares of the 1920's, and were often given away for free with a purchase at the local appliance or grocery shop. There is even documentation of cups and saucers being added to Quaker Oates packages as purchasing incentives. People enjoyed collecting sets over time and by the 1970's "Depression Glass" became a popular collector's item.
This set is in perfect vintage condition with no chips or scratches.
