Antique Copper Betel Box

This beautiful hand tinned, copper box was once used in India to store ancient medicinal betel nuts and leaves. In the 1800s, it was a common practice to chew the nuts, which served as an aphrodisiac, along with the leaves coated in a lime paste, which worked as stimulants, antiseptics and breath fresheners.
