Antique Transferware Ironstone Platter

Made in Sweden in 1918, this beautiful Gustafsberg, Caeser transferware platter is in beautiful antique condition and is a stunning accent for serving and celebrating a meal together. The technique of transferring designs onto serving ware was developed in the mid 1700s and allowed middle class families to have access to more elevated serving pieces.The designs were first etched into a metal plate, then rolled with ink and pressed onto a thin paper. The paper was delicately pressed onto the china or ironstone and fired in the kiln, transferring the image. Before this process became popular, all detailing on plates and platters was hand painted.
