Vintage Enamelware Jug
Vintage Enamelware Jug
The scalloped neck of this vintage enamelware jug is not only a very rare find but so elegant in its minimal, utilitarian way. Enamelware was developed in the 1870's and was a wonderful kitchen alternative to fragile china or pottery, as it was much lighter and easier to clean. Pieces were made from a thin metal and then coated with a color tinted enamel glaze. Many early pieces were gathered during WWII in scrap metal drives, so remaining early pieces are harder to come by. In the 1950's and 1960's enamelware remained popular and its manufacturing became more refined with lighter metals.
This beautiful pitcher, with its light grey patterning, is likely from the early to mid 1900s and is in wonderful vintage condition with no dents and extremely minimal ware to the enamel.
